Puppy Stacking Lesson 2

By Theresa Robinson

This lesson will teach your puppy to lean forward when stacking.

The photos at the buttom demonstrate how this is done. Hold your puppy by the front and under the rear while slowly pushing the puppy off of the back of the table. Make sure you push the puppy backwards with the hand holding the front. Do not pull the puppy with the hand holding the rear. It is only necessary to let the puppy feel like her may fall. Don't let him fall. By letting his rear feet feel the edge of the table he/she will lean forward. Then stack your puppy and apply light pressure on the chest. The puppy will lean forward. On the puppies from hell, this works very well. Get some red bricks or purchase happy legs. Break the bricks in half. Place them on the table and stack the puppy on them. Some puppies lean to one side or the other. Take your finger and push them into the lean. This will make the puppy correct and stand straight on all four feet. DO NOT REPEATEDLY PUSH PUPPY OFF OF TABLE. Only do this enough time to get him/ her to lean forward. Once puppy knows how to lean forward do not push off the back of the table. Try stacking puppy with rear on edge of table. This too will cause the puppy to lean forwards.

This training transfers into adulthood. Always stop on a good note. Do not overwork puppy. 2-3 minutes is enough.
